About this Speaker

Prof. Simelys Hernández obtained her degree in Chemical Engineering, at Politecnico di Torino and Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2004, and was awarded a PhD in Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in 2009. Currently, she is Associate Professor of Chemical Plants sector in the fields of heterogeneous catalysis, green chemistry products and processes, photo-electro-catalytic technologies, sustainability, industrial chemistry, and petroleum technology. Since 2010, her R&D activities are focussed on the development of scalable processes for the sustainable production of fuels and chemicals. She is vice-coordinator of the EU H2020 project RECO2DE, technical coordinator of the EU H2020 project SunCoChem, PI of the H2020 project OCEAN, and has worked in the coordination and scientific teams of other EU Projects (CELBICON, SOLHYDROMICS, ArtipHyction, ECO2CO2, TERRA) related to CO2 capture from air or flue gases and the development of novel sustainable photo-electro-chemical technologies for CO2 conversion, from lab-scale (TRL 2/3) to pilot scale (TRL5/6). In 2020, she was classified among the Top 2% scientists in the world ranking in the disciplines of Applied Sciences and Engineering (source: composite citation index WORLDWIDE).
